   These are Caricatures, which means part of the carving has been exaggerates in order to produce something that is easily recognizable or has an identifiable visual likeness.  Many are presidents and political figure.  Each are carved in Basswood and painted in water base acrylics.

 

"Woodrow Wilson"  

     This is a carving of President Woodrow Wilson,  our  28th President from 1913 to 1921.  He led us through World War I.  He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.   He resides in Bryan, Texas.

"William McKinley"  

This is a caricature of President William McKinley, our 25th President from 1897 to 1901.  He wore a red carnation so that his invalid wife could see him at a distance.  He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.   He resides in Bryan, Texas.

"Gerald Ford"  

This is a caricature of President Gerald R. Ford, our 38th President and our only president who was not elected.    He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He holds the Washington Post Newspaper of August 9, 1974, the day President Nixon resigned.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.  (July 2012) 

 

 

"Jimmy Carter"  

This is a caricature of President James Earl Carter Jr., our 39th President.    He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.

"JFK"  

This is a caricature of President John F. Kennedy, our 35th President.    He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.

"Dwight D"  

This is a caricature of President Eisenhower, who was our last military general to become president.   He was our 34the President from 1953 to 1961.  He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.

"Ronald Reagan"  

This is a caricature of President Ronald Reagan, who is fast becoming one of our most popular presidents.    He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.  (December 2011)

"LBJ"  

President Lyndon Baines Johnson became President following the assassination of President Kennedy in November 1963.  This is him taking the oath of office.  He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.    (November 2011) 

"Navy Captain"     

This is a caricature of my brother.  He has been in the Navy for 28 years and currently in the Naval Reserves.   He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Sweden.   (September 2011) 

"George W. Bush"  

President Bush was our 43rd President from 2001 to 2009, and President during Operation Enduring and Iraqi Freedom.  He was also at one time part owner of the Texas Rangers Baseball team so  I thought it appropriate to put him in a Rangers Jacket.  He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.   (September 2011) 

 

   

"Henry"     

I made this for a good friend of mine.    He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Carson City, NV.    (Sept 2011) 

 

"George Herbert Walker Bush"     

President Bush was our 41st President from 1989 to 1983, and President during Desert Shield and Storm.  He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.    (August 2011) 

"Winston Churchill"     

Famously known as the British Prime Minister during WWII, this is a caricature of Winston Churchill.    He is 12" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.    (July 2011) 

"The Wind Up"     

This is a caricature of a 1940 Chicago Cub baseball pitcher in his wind up.  He is 12" tall with the stand and painted in water base acrylics.  He resides in Grayslake, Illinois.   I also made a video if you would like to check it out.    (July 2011)

"Bill Clinton"     

This is a caricature of President William Jefferson Clinton.  I never thought I would carve him, but it was fun to make.   As you know he was our 42nd President.  He is 10" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.    (Jun 2011)  

 

"Nixon"     

This is a caricature of President Richard Nixon and the last trip he would make on Marine One.  He is 10" tall, carved in basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.    (Jun 2011)  

"WATOSH"     

This is a caricature of a United States Marine Corps Aviator General.   The carving is 11" tall and carved in basswood.  I made it for a friend of mine who lives in Jacksonville, NC, home of the Marine Corps 2nd Marine Division.   If you click on him, you'll see the evolution of the carving from a drawing to finished product.  (May 2011) 

"The Female DI"     

This is a caricature of a United States Marine Corps female Drill Instructor.  The carving is 11" tall and carved in basswood.  I made it for a friend of mine who lives in Jacksonville, NC, home of the Marine Corps 2nd Marine Division.   (April 2011) 

"William Jennings Bryan"     

This is a caricature of William Jennings Bryan.  He is 10" tall and on a 1 1/4" stand.  He is made of basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He resides in Bryan, Texas.    (Mar 2011)

"Harry Truman"

"Teddy Roosevelt"     

Another Presidential caricature.  This is of Teddy Roosevelt.  He is 10" tall and on a 1 1/4" stand.  He is made of basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He currently resides in Bryan, Texas.   (Oct 2010)

"President Obama"

      I made this carving for someone who contacted me through this web sight.  He asked if I could make a caricature of President Obama.  I said I didn't know and would give it a try.  My sons recognized him and my wife thought it was one of my best carvings.  The carving of President Obama is 10" tall and on a 1 1/4" stand.  He is made of basswood and painted in water based acrylics.  He is in Bryan, Texas.  (Sept 2010)  

"Casey Stengel"  

He lives in Newark, NJ and he is a big Yankees fan.  He stands  8"tall.   (Jan 09) 

 

"Coach" 

I made this carving for a great friend of mine.  He was my Cross Country Coach at Grayslake High School in 1977 and retired this summer after 38 years of teaching History and Coaching.  He taught me many life lessons and was one of my most revered role models.  The carving is 8" tall and carved out of basswood and painted in water  base acrylics.     (June 2008)

This is the grandmother and the grandfather of my kids and my nieces and nephews.  The book Bunka is looking at has pictures of those little people. The carving resides in Stafford, Virginia.  (Dec 94.)

This is actually a music box and plays, "If I could talk to the animals."

He is from Harry Potter and resides in Battle Creek, MI.  He is 9" tall and carved out of basswood and painted in water base acrylics.   

"CLOWN"

I made this for my brother who lives in Illinois.  Each balloon represents each of his kids.  Yes he has three of them.  It is 10" tall and made of basswood. 

 

"CABBIE WHO STOLE NEW YORK"

I made this for the author of the book, "the Cabbie who stole New York".  It is 6" in length and made of basswood. Carving resides in Nutley, NJ.
